The Business Activity Statement (BAS)Every business in Australia that is registered for GST must lodge a BAS Statement. BAS Statements may also include PAYGW, PAYG and WET Taxes. When is my BAS Statement Due?You can elect to lodge your Statement Quarterly or Monthly.Quarterly Bas's are due for lodgement and payment on the following dates:
July to October Quarter October 28th
November to December Quarter February 28th
January to March Quarter April 28th
April to June Quarter July 28th
Late lodgement of a Business Activity Statement will incur a penalty and late payments icur a Interest charge called a GIC Charge. These penalties are handed down by the ATO.
Methods of ReportingThere are 2 methods of reporting:1. Cash - reporting based on money physically received and spent in the business. 2. Accruals - Based on Customer invoices produced but may not necessarily have received payment, and GST Inputs are based on supplier invoices received into the business, but not necessarily paid for.

How can my BAS be lodged?1. Manual Business Activity Statement - Figures must be manually written in black pen and mailed to the ATO by the due date.2. ATO Business Portal - Register to lodge online through the ATO Website. A reminder is sent to you that your BAS is due for lodgement. Login and enter figures online. Payment can be made via BPAY, Cheque or at Post Office. To register go to ATO Business Page Under Online Services on the right hand side you will see a link to register for the Business Portal. 3. Accountant - Your Tax Agent lodges your Business Activity Statement on your behalf.
