Create a Website - Where do I start?

You have 3 choices:

1. Create your own site using easy software and tools

2. Hire a Web Designer to create a site for you

3. A combination of both - Web Designer creates site for you and you update it on a regular basis

Your first starting points of creating a website are:

1. Domain Name - Think of a Domain Name and Register it asap. Go to our Domain Registrations Page for more information. Please note some programs do include an in built domain registration facility.

2. Choose a Website HOST. Your site will need to be hosted. There are various options for hosting:

- Your current internet provider
- The company where you hosted your domain
- Other Web Hosting Companies
- Companies like Site Buildit handle your domain registration and hosting in the price.

3. Plan and map out your website. Whether you create a website yourself or get a website developer to help you, you still have to plan the content and main topics of your site. Your main topics will become your Navigation Bar Headings.

4. Start writing content - The main point I have learnt when designing and creating websites is to write a lot of content. Previously I have had very graphical websites with pictures of products I was selling. The more content you have, the better the search engines will rank you. (they like a lot of information) If you choose to get a Web Designer to create your site, usually you will still have to write all of your own content - they will just tweak it for you for search engine optimisation.

Create Website Myself:
• In full control
• Costs are minimal
• Make changes when necessary
• I can use easy to use software.
• Using Site Build It, I can still do Search Engine Optimisation myself.

Web Designers

• Professionals and more advanced tools
• Better Graphic Design
• You have to rely on the web designer to make any changes you need.
• Great for more complicated features ie flash
• Can be costly

Combination - Use both

• Use the Web Designer to create your site and design all the graphics, and learn how to perform updates yourself.
